Update Guide

Preface

Already got LimboMedia running? That's fine. Need an update to a new version? No problem!

What makes updating that easy is the simple structure of LimboMedia.
There's a "data" directory within your installation where all your data, metadata and configuration is stored. No installation, no system or registry settings, no files spread all over your system. Everything's nice and clean, just the way you like and understand it. That makes updating as easy as moving your installation to another server or making backups.

Important note: We use major versions to mark big changes in data structure and storage. That's why updates only work within a major version, so you can update from 1.5 to 1.6 but not to 2.0. Nevertheless import and export of bookmarks,notes and tasks will work through major version.

Shutdown the running server

Should be clear, right?

Download and unzip new version package

Same process as a new installation.

Move or copy the data directory from old to new version

As an alternative you might want to replace everything but the data folder to keep your folder names. Remember to backup this folder and remember your database if you've configured an external one.

Start the new server

Required internal tasks will be executed automatically.

Done.
